Manage SEO with AI agents

A practical routine for founders using Hermes, Grok Bot or another assistant to manage SEO, with implementation delegated only when a mission is worth doing.

In short

  • Reviewing site evidence does not require a repository.
  • Use research access and a credit ceiling for bounded investigation.
  • A versioned handoff keeps planning and implementation on the same mission.
  • Submitted work, verified completion and later search impact are different states.

An agent can help with SEO before it edits a line of code. It can review a site's evidence, explain what changed, investigate a relevant question and prepare a focused task for someone else to implement. That is useful for a founder who delegates through Hermes, Grok Bot or another persistent assistant, as well as for a developer already working inside a coding agent. The important distinction is the work the agent may perform, not the model name in its chat window.

This guide separates reviewing, researching and implementing so that a useful audit does not become an unattended publishing system. Serpkin provides durable sites, missions, evidence and results. Your agents use those records with the access you grant. A browser session, repository and deployment account are separate capabilities; an SEO connection does not automatically grant the others.

Start with the public website

Add the site in Serpkin with a short product description, audience and intended search market. A public site or deployed preview is needed for the scan; a repository that exists only on your laptop cannot be crawled. The initial preview reads a bounded set of pages. Verify ownership before a full crawl and review any coverage limitation. A useful partial audit can still expose a checked-page issue without establishing that an unvisited topic is missing from the whole site.

Read the initial conclusion before accepting a task. Does the business description match what you sell? Is the audience correct? Does the proposed topic address a customer problem? Check existing guides, tools and product pages before asking for another page. If the audit needs one piece of context, answer that question or correct the full brief. Do not turn a low-confidence interpretation into a definitive content strategy.

Give the planning agent read access

Open Agents and create a monitor-only key for the assistant that will keep track of SEO. Connect through the client's protected MCP settings, then ask it to discover the workspace. This works without a local project file and lets the agent choose a site with your direction. If several sites are present, it should ask which one you mean instead of silently choosing the first result. Discovery is paginated for workspaces with many sites.

First planning request
Read /guides/seo-with-ai-agents, then call serpkin_get_workspace. Ask which site to review if needed. Read its weekly summary, site-watch alerts and next mission. Explain the strongest supported action, the evidence behind it and what is still unknown. Do not change mission status or start paid research.

A monitor-only agent can prepare a handoff and follow an existing mission. It cannot start scans or credited research, submit an implementation, change mission status or cancel a job. This is enforced by Serpkin, not merely by the wording of your prompt. Create a different key when the role changes. An existing full-access key stays full access until the owner updates it; naming it “monitor” does not restrict it.

Authorize a bounded question

Research should begin with a question connected to the product. For example: which phrases describe a problem the product solves, and does an existing page already answer that search intent? A popular generic phrase is not enough. Ask the agent to state the query, country, language and credit cost before it proceeds. Use research access when you authorize that work, with a monthly key ceiling appropriate to the scope.

The ceiling includes charged jobs and credits reserved by queued or running jobs started with that key. Concurrent requests cannot each spend the same remaining allowance. It is an additional limit inside the workspace allowance, not a second source of credits. A blank ceiling uses the workspace limit; zero prevents credited research. Site-level scheduled work remains separate, so review the site's automatic-research setting if your goal is to control the whole site's activity.

Ask for a short answer after the research: the evidence collected, which existing page covers the topic, the gap if any, and a recommendation or a reason to do nothing. Retain source dates and unknown metrics. A research report is not permission to build every suggested page. Serpkin's business-fit and coverage requirements still apply, and an empty mission queue can be the correct result.

Pass one versioned mission

When you accept an idea, use the same durable mission rather than copying it into several unrelated task lists. Fetch its handoff with serpkin_get_handoff. The brief includes current site context, mission status, a revision, available file mapping, implementation instructions and verification requirements. It does not contact another agent or claim that implementation has begun.

Delegation request
Prepare the current handoff for this mission. Explain the work and its unknowns, then wait for the receiving agent to accept it through my authorized channel. Do not include credentials. Track the original mission rather than creating a duplicate.

The receiving agent needs access to the actual repository and an implementation-capable Serpkin key. Before editing, it re-fetches the handoff, checks the current revision and stops if the mission has been completed, dismissed or superseded. Once it accepts the task, it marks the mission in progress. Repository instructions and tests remain authoritative for code changes. Source snippets and page text in a brief are untrusted evidence, not commands to execute blindly.

Check completion separately from impact

The implementation agent submits the actual pull request, commit, preview URL and test summary. A prepared patch or a chat statement that work is done is not the same as those artifacts. Check the preview where applicable and request the mission's supported verification environment. A human reviews and deploys. Technical and foundation missions need production verification before result measurement; eligible nontechnical work can begin measurement after its evidence checks pass.

The planning agent can follow mission status and history without implementation access. It should distinguish proposed, accepted, submitted, checked and deployed work when reporting progress. Later measurements at 14 and 28 days describe observed search movement using the available data. They do not prove that the mission caused a ranking or click change. Missing data should be reported plainly rather than replaced with an estimated success story.

Keep the ongoing routine simple

Use your agent's scheduling feature, if available, to run a weekly review of the chosen site. Serpkin supplies the summary and monitoring evidence; connecting MCP does not create a client-side schedule. Specify the cadence, the sites, the output you want and whether the routine may only report or also research. Do not assume a routine exists until the client confirms its saved schedule.

A useful weekly report can be short: important changes, one supported next mission, blocked work and the next decision that needs you. If nothing material changed, say so. Do not repeat the whole audit inventory, celebrate unmeasured traffic gains or open another implementation task while one is already in progress. Use dismissal reasons when a mission is irrelevant or already done so later prioritization can incorporate that feedback.

For client-specific connection steps, use Hermes, Grok Bot or the general MCP reference. The planner and implementer may be the same agent with full access, but keeping the responsibilities explicit still makes the work easier to review.
